I just realized how wonderful this glue is again, it's something I picked up at the ceramics supply store the first time and just bought another tube at TAP Plastics today. It's called Industrial Strength E6000, comes in a gray tube (or convenient caulking gun size), is onlny $4.75 and had effectively glued just about everything I've ever set it to. (ceramics, rubber, leather, vinyl, wood, in random combinations to each other too...) The project for the past few days has been to glue the *&^%* fabric/rubber trim back onto the area around the door of my car. I tried what my mechanic suggested, a glue made specifically for rubber and that didn't even last an hour. This stuff was holding on the last time I looked... Well, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it will last through the torture test of hot car in summer time. Anyone else have experience with trying to glue rubber to rubber? Did you find something that stayed flexible and worked?

Re: Putting things back together again
Sun, August 28, 2005 - 9:30 PMChia.. how's that glue holding? glues can be so temperamental, I think..
umm.. I wonder if any of the costuming tribes or anyone here who's done costuming would have ideas for rubber-to-rubber adhesives.. you know.. like for latex costumes? or maybe a sole cement used in shoemaking?
sorry to be back to you so late on this.. I'm in moving mode... -

Re: Putting things back together again
Mon, August 29, 2005 - 8:42 PMNo worries. So far what has worked has been a combination of the rubber cement type stuff that my mechanic gave me (kind of made the rubber tacky) and the silicone based glue. So far (knock on wood) it's holding up okay... Not great (it's lumpy and coming apart in the corners from the tension of the rubber) but at least it's not down. I think the heat in the car in summertime is what kills the glue.
I was driving down the road the other day, saw someone driving the exact same car that I have and she had used ribbon to tie the &^*^ rubber stripping back on. Apparently it's a "known issue". Moral of the story? Don't buy a VW. -

Re: Putting things back together again
Tue, September 6, 2005 - 12:12 PMd'oh!! hate when that happens... what about epoxy? does that eat rubber or would it stick.. just tossin' out an idea... -

Re: Putting things back together again
Tue, September 6, 2005 - 12:34 PMNot sure about epoxy and its effects on rubber. Thus far I had been trying to stick with stuff that wouldn't "harden" or make the rubber less "rubbery" but I'm at the end of my rope with this. It stays up for a while but the heat gets to the glue and it all falls down again.
Ugh.

Thu, September 8, 2005 - 1:18 PMI use gorilla glue for most everything but when it dries it does harden. -

Thu, September 8, 2005 - 1:32 PMI can't remember.. have you talked to anyone at an auto supplies place.. one that maybe specializes in bodywork? -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Putting things back together again
Thu, September 8, 2005 - 1:40 PMTried the auto supply stores and mechanic... I didn't think of auto body shops for some reason. Will give a call and see.
