Hi, all! I figured since the list was so quiet you were all out there being handy.
Not me, so much. I'm busy taking classes, looking for work & doing more crafty kinds of things.
But curious to know what your latest handy grrl project has been.

Re: Whatcha workin' on?
Wed, October 20, 2004 - 8:50 PMI've been making giant guitars out of styrofoam. The electric carving knife works pretty well. Having a lot of fun with it! Should be done tomorrow (that's the deadline). -

Re: Whatcha workin' on?
Thu, October 21, 2004 - 1:25 PMHalloween is looming large so this weekend is all about the purple fuzzy monster costume.
November will find me building a large art installlation for Sea Compression. It's a PVC dome filled with balloons I call Buoyant Orbital Bounce or BOB for short.
Then the holidays and all of the craft projects to make gifts for friends and family. Maybe I can get my folks to rent an RV and drive up for Christmas (that is a project in and of itself).
Did I mention that I have to rototill my garden very soon and also build a chicken coop by next spring??

Thu, October 21, 2004 - 6:45 PMfun, Heidi!! You gonna post pics of the finished guitars? What are they for? I looked for my link of someone who made a giant Audrey Puppet using the same technique as yours for a regional theatrical production.. but I can't find it... was really cool.. showing all the steps.
I've always been a sucker for factory tours.. love seeing how things are made. -

Re: Whatcha workin' on?
Thu, October 21, 2004 - 10:34 PMSo I was working on these giant styrofoam guitars today. Wouldn't you know, the paint I used on them first actually "attacted" the styrofoam! I was really bummed about it. omgosh! I just remembered they're still outside! oops..... :S

Re: Whatcha workin' on?
Fri, October 22, 2004 - 9:09 AMd'oh! yup.. some paint will eat styrofoam.. I've done it on purpose, like when I made the gravestones I put in my yard at halloween.
When I build sets for advertising, like the fake tub I made... I give the foam object a skim coat of spackling or drywall compound & sand it down.. gives both a much more finished looking surface & most paints won't attack it anymore, either ;) -
