For me, it's chain saws & household electricty projects. I get near either one & get sweaty palms.
The electrical one comes from having had two old houses. The first one, even when I shut off the main, the outlet I worked on still leaked a little. My current house, 103 years old, and a demanding mistress, well... it's just suffering from the reputation of house number one.
So. What have been/are your handy grrl fears? What are you donig to overcome them?

Re: What gives you the heebies?
Fri, October 15, 2004 - 7:26 AMI still have problems with cutting blades (see my post about my shop teacher!!!)
I've built a 6x6 deck and a wooden "hippie" couch - and the way I got around it was to have the hardware store cut my wood to size.
My next project is going to be a wooden hot tub - I'll probably have a friend (with his own power tools) help with the cutting. -

Re: What gives you the heebies?
Fri, October 15, 2004 - 9:53 AMChain saws, definetly chain saws. I'm also very nervous about poking in electrical things. But dealing with rats in the attic and walls freaks the shit out of me. You never know when those nasty buggers may decide to be proactive and come out of no where. I now live in a house with cinderblock walls and a slab foundation, if we get rats in the walls of this house we are calling the National Guard and moving out of state.
Half of a wine barrel (the really big ones) works well for wooden hot tubs.

Fri, October 15, 2004 - 11:54 AMI wish I could get my hands on a chain saw, I need fire wood. I used to live in a cidnder block house, we had rats there.
I think cutting blackberry bushes are the worst.

Re: What gives you the heebies?
Wed, November 24, 2004 - 10:50 AMInsulation gives me the hebbies. The removal of old and putting new ones up. All that fiberglass dust floating in the air just makes me so concerned. I counter my heebies with leather gloves and a solid breathing mask. The mask smells funny but at least my lungs are safer. But I still get a little paraniod about that fiberglass.
