ok so i live in an old brick building...
the one wall smells wierd...is there anything i should watch for. or is old plaster just stinky when its damp?
i have a sensitive smeller....but whatever...its driving me nuts because its right by the computer.

Thu, November 25, 2004 - 11:50 PMIs the bathroom, kitchen or a radiator on the other side of the wall? That would be a clue that it could be dampness/mildew/mold.
If the mold has migrated to the outside of the wall.. you will know it.. it will look kinda black/stained dirty. Pretty sure you won't be able to cure this yourself if you are renting. If it's mold, you (or your landlord) may have the joyous task of ripping out the wall & replacing it.
In the meantime.. are there any incenses you like? to cover up the smell?
Oh, and rats don't care what part of town they live in! I live in a pretty nice area & had one in the house a couple years ago... yuck!!! I think they creep me out because of their size.. mice I don't mind so much, other than their stinky destructiveness -

Fri, November 26, 2004 - 1:15 PMi was burning insense...it may of been a dead thing...i cant smell it today...but i dont know if that is because i just brewed vanilla coffee [i know you want one right now :) ] its a wall that goes from the living room to the dining room. no pipes are going through it.
i hope it was a dead thing. i just got a air wisp thingy from my mom as an early x-mas present. those things are so neat.
i sometimes wonder if it had something to do with my downstairs neighbor. she is really really scary and wierd. i watch too much court tv. i just keep thinking..isnt it the stink that made people come to dahmers home? -

Fri, November 26, 2004 - 3:06 PMHope it isn't a dead neighbor, but the thought did come to mind -just like the rat theory.
A few years ago I found an elderly neighbor close to death - she fell and was on the floor for days. She died a few weeks later - I had to admit her into a nursing home and find her people. So sad that she didn't have any caregivers or family to speak of....she was 93.
I would call the landlord or check to see if your neighbors okay. -

I 2nd Dale's idea for having the landlord check the neighbor... could be she "just" has lots of garbage piled up too..
