Here I am.. reading the instructions for a garbage disposal.. I've never really used mine, and when the realtor came through. it was discovered it doesn't work.
Last night I tried the allen wrench to see if I could unjam it, but the danged thing wouldn't budge.. not even with the encouragement of Miss Hammer....
So tomorrow I will add garbage disposal replacement to my skills.. any of you done this one yet? The instructions don't look toooo bad.. but having said that, I may have jinxed it... sure hope I can do it....

Re: The next big Handy Grrl adventure....
Sat, July 2, 2005 - 5:25 AMCan't help you out in that department, Adele. :-(
Mine is an antique and when it does finally croak, I'm going to take it out and not put one back in.
I only run mine enough to clean it every once in a while (they're not good for septic systems) and it takes up too much room under the sink.
Good luck on the replacement though and let us know how it turns out.

Re: The next big Handy Grrl adventure....
Sun, July 3, 2005 - 5:33 AMYay, for the disposal job!!!! :-D
Now I know that if mine goes out and I can't get hubby gathered up....it's something I can probably handle.
I'm putting in a micro-drip irrigation sytem this weekend (tired of dragging 100 feet of hose around).
So far, so good. Just a few more drippers to put on, then I'll turn the water on and we'll see if I get everything in okay. It hasn't been near as hard to do as I had heard people talk about.

Re: The next big Handy Grrl adventure....
Sun, July 3, 2005 - 11:58 AMAmazing isn't it? Kinda like when people say "Oh.. you don't want to go there....." Makes me want to see it even more...
I think with any project, as long as you start off when you are fresh in body & mind, set aside the time & go in without expectations either way.. isn't nearly as bad as it might be :).
Let us know how the irrigation project turns out. -

Tue, July 5, 2005 - 5:13 AM>micro-drip irrigation project<
Well, it's in and was simple to do. I did it in and evening and part of the morning (not because it takes a long time, but because I started real late in the evening and it got dark).
BUT :( ......the system is made to operate at no more than 60psi and our water pressure is way more than that. So, the pressure is too much for the pre-set pressure regulator that I bought. Unless I can find an ajustable regulator I'm going to have to pinch all that pressure back manually or the water just runs out of my drippers. Good thing though, is that I don't have to drag 150 ft. of hose around any more, I can just turn it on and go do something else for a couple of hours. :) -

Re: The next big Handy Grrl adventure....
Tue, July 5, 2005 - 6:43 AMI would think there's gotta be a pressure regulator out there somewhere...
Thanks for the update on your project, Lisa.. glad it went well :) -

Re: The next big Handy Grrl adventure....
Wed, July 6, 2005 - 4:37 AMI had got the pre-set regulator.
They are supposed to make an adjustable regulator that I'm going to look at when I go to Lowe's next. If the adjustable one doesn't work, I'm going to talk to some of the irrigation guys. Or maybe I'll see if anyone has any suggestions on the DIY tribe.
But it's still real nice to just turn it on and go do something else while all the little drippers run! :) -

Got a new one in & then the hard drive didn't work.. so yesterday I picked up a borrowed hard drive from a friend, and after much coaxing.. finally got it up & running.. yippeeeeeeeee!!

Mon, July 18, 2005 - 5:27 AMYou're the handiest, Adele!! :-D
That's not something I think I'd be brave enough to tackle, I would probably have to call and pay the "Geek Squad".

Re: The next big Handy Grrl adventure....
Wed, January 17, 2007 - 1:54 PMThanks, Adele, you gave me the courage to try it myself, and I did it!
The whole thing took me about 2 hours, plus a couple trips to the hardware store (decided I needed a new socket wrench set, and later found out I'd have to have an outflow pipe custom-cut to fit my existing plumbing).
Overall, it saved me money, and was both fun and empowering! Now I'm off to take a look at that leaky bathroom faucet ... -
