new weird handy tool

So I had this nasty clog in my vacuum cleaner yesterday.. couldn't get it out for anything! Then I saw the sun glint off something on my dining room table.. yay! a crochethook!! That little puppy worked great on getting out all the clog!

The hook now lives in my toolbox.. heaven knows I can't crochet for beans & use the hook for anything but!

What nontraditional item have you put to Handy Grrl use lately?

dental tools from the summer street fairs for a dollar. It looks like I'm doing some wicked evil dentistry in my house, but the curved picks and scraping picks are fantastic for cleaning out old machines with little parts I can't get into, or picking goo out of some beautiful metal, or carving wax or clay, or anything that needs a sharp, pointy bit of finesse.

I'm in the process of remodeling and restaining my front decks. Prior owners didn't have a clue when they built them, so now they are falling apart.

I"m clearing stuff out of the attic & basement & making my summer "to do" list for house repairs...

found some old compressed gas canisters in the basement from the ex BF.. man those give me the heebies (the canisters, not the exes). They're not rusty. but eww.. & not a clue where to turn them in.. anyone know?

PS.. Lisa.. LOVE your smiley bag self :)

i'm getting ready to parquet my bednook expansion, but the ceiling needs another coat of yellow before i do that. so, ceiling, then parquet, then blue on the rest of the wals, then shelving units, then i can move back in! it's only been MONTHS.

thanks for asking! :) big up to all handy grrls and boiz and other peoples.

I'm working on this MAJOR kitchen re-model, and stripping about 70 years of paint, varnish and crap off these great cabinets. Anyway, the screws are painted over so many times that they just look like little bumps in the wood, and they're rusted enough that I can't just nail them with an electric screwdriver, so my wierd tool to use is an eyeglass screwdriver.

I didn't have a pick, or a regular screwdriver that was small enough to use as a pick to get the paint out of the drivers, so I ended up using one of those little turney-eyeglass screw drivers to sculpt out the paint. Worked pretty well- strong enough to get the paint, but not strong enough to bend or strip the screws themselves.

                    ~smile~

Oh, and there's also smeared paint on the ceramic tiles- a foot pumice stone has been perfect for getting it off, not rough enough to scratch the ceramic though. :)

foot pumice stones are also GREAT for cleaning stains & such off of porcelain...
Had some nastified stains that didn't come up after years of scrubbing, bleaching, stain removing... and then used the pumice. Stain gone.
Damn! How much time & money did I spend before my dollar store pumice???
